5 out of 5 stars HAUNTING   March 21, 2010
Julio Lopez (Santiago, Chile)
By far, this is one of the most beautiful scores I've listened to in recent years, as beautiful as the movie, actually. There's no way to describe it since it becomes such a stunning experience that it makes it different to explain its effect on the listener. Whether you've seen the movie or not, get this one. A sensorial experience difficult to forget which will become a favourite in the years to come. The unforgeatable SAMSARA soundtrack matches in quality to this one. 5 stars is too little.

5 out of 5 stars A Musical Masterpiece   December 18, 2008
Hidayat Adams (Muscat, Oman)
Mychael Danna seems to make music that stems from the soul. His compositions are sublime, poignant, filled with nostalgic elements and affect the listeners viscerally. In fact, on this album the last track, "Across the River" is one of the most haunting melodies I have heard in quite a while. I could not simply listen to it once, but had to listen to it at least three time consecutively.

The music is a perfect companion for what was a brilliant and evocative film. Each track on the album added to the depth of the film, and listening to the soundtrack recalled those tragic or triumphant moments in the film most vividly. From the first track - "House of Widows" to the already mentioned last track, this album testifies to being a rare musical gem. Any connoisseur would be proud to have it in a collection.

A.R. Rahman is the guest composer responsible for the vocal tracks. Of these, the most melodious and unforgettable one is "Piya Ho", sung by Sadhana Sargam and Sukhwinder Singh. The music itself has great potency, but the lyrics and composition of the song add another level of excellence to it. In the film the song is edited, but the full version on the album is a wonderful treat.

Even if you do not really like Hindi music but you are open to "experimentation", try this album. You will not tire of it; in fact, I think it will be one of your most replayed albums in your collection. I know it has become my favorite musical soundtrack!

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful, Relaxing, Haunting   October 12, 2008
A. K. Pollard (Alexandria, VA)
We bought this album after enjoying the music in the movie. Some of the songs are hauntingly beautiful, we love the instruments being used. I am a massage therapist and it is tranquil enough to use during sessions. One particular song is repeated with a few variations throughout the CD. Overall, a really nice CD to have for a dinner party, afternoon of reading, etc.

Is beautiful and magical, you can listen while you are working and it doesn't distract you at all, I love it.

5 out of 5 stars WATER   November 24, 2007
Jan Steward
I believe this is a most successful fusion effort. The power and beauty of Indian music happily is enhanced by the beautiful orchestration of music from the West.
