Monsoon Wedding is Mychael Danna's second collaboration with film director Mira Nair, (Kama Sutra was the first), and he has again compiled a winning soundtrack. Danna explores a wide range of emotions, from solemn to celebratory, through different generations of Indian culture. The contemplative "Good Indian Girls" and "Hold Me, I'm Falling" feature Danna's trademark piano ambience over traditional Indian instrumentation, and the vivacious "Baraat" sounds like a Punjabi variation on Dixieland, while "Delhi.com" ventures into dreamy ethno-techno territory. Sukhwinder Singh's "Today My Heart Desires" serves up lively bhangra rock, and Laxmikant Pyarelal's "Today the Weather Plays Tricks on Me" (performed by Mohammed Rafi) swoons with strings and male vocals. In all, the soundtrack's pleasing variety of Eastern music mirrors the film's old and new worlds living within a singular culture. --Bryan Reesman

I am a great fan of Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding (The Criterion Collection) [Blu-ray], and love the soundtrack. For some reason, it took me a while to purchase the movie soundtrack and it finally arrived a couple of days ago. I haven't stopped listening to it since! The tracks are quite eclectic - you get a mix of bhangra beats like in "Aaja Nachle", and ghazal-inspired ones like "Allah Hoo" (very soothing), some that are pure techno dance beats like "Aaj Mera Jee Kardaa", "Fuse Box", etc., and many more.
There are 19 tracks in all, a collection of whimsical beats, high-energy dance beats, and soothing rhythms to entertain and energize! Recommended!

I believe it includes some songs that weren't in the movie, however that's an added plus as this soundtrack is brilliant. The music is engaging and I can listen to this album over and over again. You will love it.
